It's nice that you're experimenting around with shifting colour. I'm not too experienced in cool lighting so I think I'll lay off the colour crits for now.
If you want to be able to kind of paint like me you first need some practice in perspective drawing which will help you intuitively place each mark and then some knowledge about core shadow and bounced shadows. A little bit of practice in stuff like this: [link] goes a long way.

My basic advice would be to try and get an understanding of core shadows and master rendering the basic shapes. you can do this with some internet resources ([link]) or by simply putting an orange on your desk and painting that.
I think that's it for now, we can worry about colour a bit later.
